RAINY DAY PROCEDURES

***NEW PROCEDURE: On stormy days when it is perceived to be unsafe for your child to leave the building, a YELLOW flag will be raised on the flagpole.
When this flag is visible, please come into the building to retrieve your child in the following designated areas:

Media Center

On rainy mornings, students may enter the building and walk quietly into the cafeteria.  At approximately 8:20 a.m., the teachers will pick up the students from that location.

It is necessary for you to plan with your child for rainy days.  Please do not ask your child to call home because we would like everything to go as smoothly as possible.  During the rainy season, we recommend that all children have a raincoat or poncho in their backpack at all times.  Please keep in mind that students will not be dismissed during a severe thunderstorm.

We strongly suggest that anyone who uses the car pool to pick up your child(ren) keep the car pool family name sign on the dashboard.  On rainy days all staff members assist; they do not recognize family cars as readily (or at all) as those teachers that regularly assist with car pool.

Your patience and cooperation is always appreciated.

TRAFFIC SAFETY PROCEDURES

THE SCHOOL PARKING LOT IS FOR STAFF USE ONLY.  The parking lot is NOT to be used as an area to pick-up or to drop-off children.  There are pedestrian crosswalks located near the school.  Children who are crossing the street will be required to cross at these walkways. Please do not ask your child to cross the street to meet you.  This is unsafe and directly endangers your child.

Double or triple pick up or parking in bus/loading zone or car pool lane is not only a serious safety hazard, but is also a violation of the traffic code and may lead to a traffic violation of the traffic code and may lead to a traffic citation.

Miami-Dade County School bus zones are located on the corner of 103 Avenue.  Please do not park south of the entrance to the cafeteria entrance of the school.

Please obey all requests made by staff members as well as parent volunteers who work to keep all our children free from harm.  Nametags in cars are helpful to expedite the car pool lane.  Please have one on your dashboard.  If you need one, please send a note to your child’s teacher and we will be more than happy to provide you with one.  Starting September 6th, families should arrange for student pick up - Kindergarten, third (3), and fourth (4) grade on 103 Avenue; students in first (1), second (2) and fifth (5) grade will be dismissed on 124 Street.  Staff members will assist at the drop-off areas.  Do not park or leave cars unattended on 103 Avenue and 124 Street.  This causes traffic hazards and severely impedes the flow of traffic.

As a courtesy to the parents that have been waiting in the car pool lane on 124 Street, please do not make (right turn from 103 Avenue from the north and a left turn from 103 Avenue from the south) onto 124 Street to get in the car pool lane. If we all work together, all students will get home safely in less than 15 minutes.

We really appreciate your cooperation on the Rainy Day Procedures and on Traffic Safety during dismissal.

Just a reminder, please do not park in the car pool lane during arrival and dismissal.
