First Grade Summer Reading Assignment
In order to keep children reading and actively engaged in books over the summer, we are assigning each student two books to read, along with activities to complete. We do not expect the children to be able to read the books on their own. Please read the books to your child and discuss the characters, setting, problems and solution of each story. After you have read the book a few times, have your child complete the following activities:
Chrysanthemum
by Kevin Henkes
After reading and discussing the story, design a bookmark for the
book. Use pictures to represent the main character.
Chester's
Way by Kevin Henkes
After reading and discussing the book, make a poster about the story. Be sure to
include main characters and events from the story on the poster.
Please be sure that your child's first and last name is on each project and have him/her bring the completed activities to school during the first week of classes in the fall.
Have
a wonderful summer. We look forward to an exciting new year soon.
